Great Fluffy Snowflakes, Big As Cats!

Well, not that big, but quite fluffy, and very pretty. Actually shovelled the walk twice this morning.

Someone was standing at my front step in full running gear as I'm getting ready to head out for my run. Turns out to be one of my new neighbours, waiting for her friends to pick her up. They were going to drive to Edworthy Park to start their run there. Always nice to meet another runner.

After wishing each other a great run, I headed toward the bluff, down The Path Under The Stairs, and across the foot bridge to Prince's Island. Time to head west today, especially with all the fresh snow. The paths going west tend to get plowed pretty quickly, and I figured that would be easier than slogging through a fresh fall of ankle deep snow. So west from near Eau Claire, along the promenade, then back to the north side of the river under the C-Train bridge.

That first thirty minutes was a little challenging. My right ankle was feeling a little tight and it was taking its time loosening up. By the time I got past Crowchild, it felt much better. And just about there, three ladies went by smiling and waving - my new neighbour and her friends going the other way.

After that it was straight on past Edworthy and up to and even past Shouldice Park, to my turn-around point were Bowness Road crosses the river on Shouldice Bridge. Then back toward home.

Reaching Edworthy, I passed a couple of small Land Rovers, one with a plow and one with a rotating brush. They were just starting to head east, cleaning off the path. They stayed with me all the way to Crowchild. Kinda like having my own pace cars, or some kind of escort.

And just before Crowchild, I met my neighbour and friends heading the other way again.

Back to the C-Train bridge, over to the promenade, then across the foot bridge and up The Path Under The Stairs. Then zig-sag and I'm home. A great run, and lots of people out doing the same.

Today's run:
Distance: 21.84 km. Time: 2:03:33. Average speed: 10.6 kph.
Rest distance: 1.26 km. Rest time: 13:00
Total distance: 23.10 km. Total time: 2:16:33

Weather: Light snow and -2C to start, changing to cloudy and -1C by the end. A little bit of a breeze started about half an hour into it, but didn't last. Certainly not nearly as brisk as was forcast.

Hey. I'm impressed with your commitment, I've never ran in the snow before, it's either been an excuse or best I've ended up in the gym.

Fact of life in this climate. Right now it's been rather dry and snowless, but we should be getting into the spring storms in a couple of months. And this town gets some doozies.
